Bellevue City Council candidate Jennifer Robertson today announced her endorsement by Eighth District US Congressman Dave Reichert. The report comes on the heels of another important endorsement for Robertson by Bellevue Firefighters Local 1604.

“I am honored to have Congressman Dave Reichert’s endorsement” said Robertson. “I share Dave’s commitment to public safety and security so his support has special meaning for me.”

Robertson’s campaign manager Allison Wallin added: “Endorsements at the city council level are quite rare for a US Congressman. It makes Dave Reichert’s endorsement especially meaningful for our campaign. We’re thrilled that Jennifer’s service to Bellevue and commitment to our city’s future is getting this kind of recognition.”

Robertson is running for Bellevue City Council Position 7, the seat vacated by the death of the Honorable Phil Noble in June. She has also earned the endorsements of Bellevue City Councilmember John Chelminiak and County Councilmember Reagan Dunn.

There are still ballots left to count, but as I write this I am receiving over 49% of the vote, a clear and convincing win in a three-way race. I am so excited, grateful, and humbled by the support of friends and contributors, the enthusiasm of great volunteers and, most of all, for the voters’ trust.
Because this was a special election, I will be sworn in at the end of November. I’m can’t wait to dive right in and craft policies to ensure Bellevue remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. As I take office, I will remember and honor the responsibility you have entrusted me with and work hard, always keeping the citizens’ best interests in mind.

Thank you,
Jennifer

Bellevue City Council candidate Jennifer Robertson stopped by the office earlier this week to introduce herself. She’s involved in what is shaping up to be a three-way race for the seat left vacant by the late Phil Noble.

Robertson, who calls herself a “municipal dork,” said she’s the candidate most prepared to hit the ground running from Day One. She’s dealt with some of the city’s most consequential issues, having worked on the Planning Commission during the formation of the Bel-Red corridor plan and on the Bellevue Light Rail Best Practices Committee.

“I’m the one that’s been intimately involved in those projects,” she said. “I have the most relevant, current experience.”

Robertson’s likely opponents have some municipal experience themselves. Michael Creighton is a former Bellevue City Council member and mayor – although he’s been out of the game for a few years – while Betina Finley is chair of the Bellevue Arts Commission and a member of the Meydenbauer Bay Steering Committee, which is dealing with hot-button issues over how to build Bellevue’s next waterfront park.

From the Bellevue Reporter newspaper:

Bellevue Planning Commissioner Jennifer Robertson announced Tuesday that she will run for the City Council seat left open by the late Phil Noble, who died last month of complications from a blood disorder.

Robertson was one of three finalists nominated to fill the seat vacated by former mayor Connie Marshall in 2008. She is a land-use attorney and mother of three who serves as the legislative-affairs chair on a local PTSA board. She was also a co-chair of the Light Rail Best Practices Committee.

“I certainly cannot replace Phil Noble, but I pledge to bring the same type of leadership to the council,” Robertson said in a press release.

The City Council has appointed former councilmember Mike Creighton as a temporary replacement for Noble, but the position will be open for election in November.

King County Elections will hold a special candidate filing period from Aug. 19 through Aug. 29, and all candidates will appear on the ballot in November. The top vote-getter will win the seat.

Noble’s elected replacement will serve the remainder of his term, which is due to expire in 2011.

Robertson has received endorsements by King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, Bellevue City Councilmember Patsy Bonincontri, and Newcastle City Councilmember Carol Simpson.
